Project: Design for Home- Hardgoods

Client: Pottery Barn Teens

The project below was a design proposal where the objective was to design 3 hard-line products for bedroom: mirror, wall decor and a storage item for each category, Boy and Girl Teen. The themes were: The Classic Prep Girl and The Heritage Sport Prep Boy. An inspiration picture of each bedroom was provided to give a deeper sense of the esthetic and vibe. Below are the initial inspiration images.

For my research and ideation stages, I used Miro and AI tools like Midjourney to help me refine some ideas that I had beforehand, for examples, creating boards and iterations. Midjourney was a great to accelerate the brainstorming stages and it helped me overcome my own creative blocks. Miro was very useful to organize and create a streamlined timeline of my own visual notes. In addition, having all possible iterations next to each other helped me edit and find a direction for my own deisgn.

Reference images of materials used in my proposal for Girl:

During my research of trends and competitors, materials like rattan were very popular and were in high demand so I decided to go in that direction. To add a whimsical touch I played with the idea of a preppy big bow for the door corners. (see further down in my final project)

Reference images of materials used in my proposal for Boy:

The mix of neon lights, industrial yet high quality materials with a sports heritage vibe. Materials used were a mix of brushed steel, engineered wood and LED neon signs. Sports is a big theme, therefore I focused on bringing a more Heritage high quality materials that last and still look updated and playful for boy.

Final Project:

Bellow you can see the final submitted designs. Editing is always a crucial part of my process as it does help fine tune and give those extra details that push to a more cohesive visual esthetic that keeps it relevant to the brand.

The project's highlights:
Working on this project for Pottery Barn Kids was a fulfilling 12-hour sprint that provided an excellent chance to delve deeply into the high-end children's home furnishings market. I enjoyed having the short deadline, which demanded a great degree of efficiency and focus on doing my research and them jump right into problem solving and making decisions of my final designs. See below some images of my design process.

Design & Product Development for a small Hawaiian inspired brand

I was lucky to be part of the design, ideation, research and production stages of Makanalani, a local Bay Area brand focused in creating cruisewear and beach-ware for women who like quality and easy travel friendly key pieces to bring to destination. My job was to help design new styles that had the potential to become the “bread and butter” pieces of the brand. One of my key objectives with this project was to not only sketch new silhouettes that were easy to wear but also help sourcing fabrics that met our MOQ’s yet still have a great quality.
